Product Description
To fit the Shaft entering the top of the gearbox.
Picture shows worn O-ring on Left, New original in the middle, and uprated version on the right.
All models use metal bush/collar to control free play at the upper end of the vertical shaft where it enters the top of the gearbox. On Right hand drive models this metal collar wears considerably and can be almost useless after as little as 30k miles.
The O-ring is really only intended to keep dust/moisture out of the gearbox however this mod provides a cheap TEMPORARY method of reducing the free play at this point and whilst not providing anything like the maximum benefit or longevity of a sleeved collar.
As you can imagine excessive free-play in this location translates to significantly more freeplay at the gear lever. The freeplay is much more of an issue on Right-Hand drive models due to their complex gear linkage, however Left-Hand drive models use the same bush/ring and can also benefit from changing it.
This is a NEW O-Ring, fractionally thicker than the Original fitment Item which can be seen in the Photo of the rings side by side (worn ring on the left, factory original item in the middle, upgraded version on the Right).
A great many people have reported noticable improvement in their gear change from changing this item alone. How long the O-Ring remains effective is determined by how worn the collar is, but it should be considered only a temporary measure.
